Set in private (gated) grounds with beautiful, mature landscaped gardens & spectacular elevated views from the pool & gardens across to nearby Caylus.

A short walk along the lane (less than 1 km, descending down & then back up again) will bring you into the village for morning croissants, bakery, butchers, greengrocers, small supermarket, Post Office, etc., and a selection of bars & restaurants ~ all within walking distance.




The nearby countryside abounds with tourist attractions, from bastide towns & villages (St. Antonin Noble Val is just 15 mins by car), to the wine growing regions of Cahor & Gaillac, with the major towns of Montauban & Villefranche (just 30 mins drive).

For those wishing to participate in sporting activities: tennis, cycling  and horse riding are all available nearby, plus kayaking through the Aveyron Gorge from St Antonin Noble Val. There are also lovely walks nearby, together with the enclosed park & lake of Caylus.  

In all, so much to see & do right on your doorstep.




The south-west facing gardens have many attractive features including several individual terraces for coffee / external dining & a shady pool area where you can relax.  

The grounds are not overlooked and offer peace & tranquillity ~ unusual for a property so close to town.













Internally, all rooms are light, bright & fresh and of good size, with a modern kitchen which is fully equipped. 











KITCHEN :  Upright fridge, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, 4 ring gas hob, raised inset electric oven. Washing machine, dryer, 2nd  upright fridge/freezer located in the nearby Utility Room.

LOUNGE : Large spacious room  (12m x 5m) with 3 sets of French doors to terrace and gardens.  LCD TV with English & French (free to view) channels, CD player and soft seating in the TV area.













DINING AREA with table and chairs for 8 persons.


French doors lead out onto the main dining terrace with table & chairs.  Also automatic canopé (sun blind) for use on the terrace.


A Wii-playconsole for children & WIFI internet.
















BEDROOM I : KINGSIZE bed (180 cms) with Double wardrobe.  Cool in summer, as on the north side, fitted also with anti mosquito screen on windows. 

Being on the ground floor, this is ideal for grandparents or persons with walking difficulties.

Approached via a country lane, (no through access), the landscaped gardens  app. 2000 m2 (total parcel  3500 m2) surround the house and pool and offer complete privacy. 

The grounds are south~west facing, gated & fenced, and offer fabulous views across to the village of Caylus. Also  a large parking area easily catering for 2 cars. Table Tennis & Badminton for clients use.

There are several external dining terraces within easy reach of the house for dining 'al fresco'.

The main bedroom with ensuite bathroom on ground floor is ideal for persons with walking difficulties as the property has just 2 wide, shallow steps internally (app 8cm high) on this floor to reach all rooms. (However it must be noted that the garden slopes down to reach the pool).

La Detente is a spacious, well-equipped house perfect for couples/families who want a quiet escape. it is has everything you are likely to need . The views from the front of the villa and the terrace are lovely - it was a real delight to sit there in the evening and watch the sun set over Caylus. or to have breakfast outside and watch the sun rise onto the town. The pool is wonderful - a good size for proper swimming. The table-tennis was a lovely addition. Although the house is big it feels homely. Everything was clean and tidy on arrival and Jayne was so helpful with the booking process. Arrival/check-in was straightforward. If you are looking for a holiday where you don't need a car for everyday things, then the location of La Detente is excellent. Caylus has everything you need in walking distance, although there are some steep hills. The small shop in town, along with a wonderful boulangerie/patisserie, has everyday bits and pieces. There are bars, cafes and a Saturday/Tuesday morning market. There is a small supermarket at the opposite end of town which stocks everything you'd need for a week's holiday. All of these are 10 - 15 minutes walk at an 'average' walking speed.

We stayed here for 2 weeks in July and had a fantastic time. There were 4 adults and 2 young children. The house is very spacious, comfortable and has everything you need. It was very hot so the partial air conditioning and fans were very welcome! The pool was used a lot and is a good size. Caylus is lovely. The local Boulanger provides excellent bread, croissants etc and the brasserie on the corner has a friendly atmosphere. This is a lovely area of France with lots to see and do.


This is a fantastic house in a perfect, slightly overlooked area of France. It is equipped to a high standard and is very comfortable inside and out. In particular, we loved the versatile outdoor eating facilities which enable sun or shade throughout the day and a wonderful view of Caylus. The pool is bigger than usual allowing a wide variety of volleyball and waterpolo variants for those with energy to burn! Otherwise, the pool cover ensures the water temperature is bath-like for those of a more restful disposition... The location of the house makes it unique in our experience of renting houses in that it is an easy walk to the amenities of a small town (including two bakeries, a nice restaurant -La Renaissance- and a tourist office) but it feels private and peaceful. We set off on a number of waymarked and random walks from the house, availed of kayaking facilities in nearby Najac and stocked up in the excellent Monday market in Caussade. Needless to say, we would be very happy to return to this haven. On top of this, The property manager (Jayne) couldn’t have been more helpful.



Our fourth time here and it never ceases to thrill us with its lovely views of Caylus and the warm welcome we get from the locals. We were only here for a week this time but the weather was amazing. The pool was like getting into a warm bath - the temperature never dropped below 32C in the day so we didn’t do much except swim and read. Although we did manage to get in a few games of table tennis as well.

It was good to note a number of improvements since last year. The new hob and oven in the kitchen were excellent. We think that the cutlery, plates and pans had all been replaced as well.  Most welcome was the new cover for the pool. This should keep the water warmer in September, when we are hoping to come next year.


We had a fantastic time at la detente, I don’t think we’ve ever had such a relaxing holiday.

The house was well equipped with everything you could want.  We didn’t expect the hill up to the village to be quite so steep but the bakery made it well worth the walk!   ‘’

Overall we  had a brilliant time.

ALL OTHER DATES : Prices are shown for groups of 4 PERSONS MAX. There is a small supplement for any additional persons of just £ 100 per person per week.
